While those are certainly big shoes to fill, the new score lacks any of the punch and gravitas from the originals. The loss of Martin O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori, composers on the previous games, is quite apparent and profound. To be fair, Bungie even did this a bit themselves, but all the little things, like plasma grenades and weapons fire being much smaller, makes the game feel not quite right. Aesthetically, many small things have been changed to give the game a more grounded or realistic look. However, the biggest disappointment in the single player is how, at times, it just doesn’t feel like Halo. Instead of a cohesive narrative, it feels as if characters are making decisions simply to move the plot forward or provide an excuse for the next big fight. The captain of the Infinity, for example, seems to exist solely to contradict Master Chief regardless of common sense or whether it makes for good military strategy. Sadly, the rest of the supporting cast is not nearly as well-written. Master Chief meeting with the now Captain Thomas Lasky is shown in a way that suggests some significance, which can be confusing if you haven’t watched the Forward Unto Dawn miniseries.Īt times, the story is great the interaction between Cortana and Chief is perhaps the best it’s ever been, with the lumbering stoic trying to come to terms with one of his only friends losing her sanity.
However, relying on other media also hurts Halo 4‘s story in places. At times it’s a good addition it’s interesting to see this greater depth being given to the story, like the shady ethics behind the creation of the Spartans and how AIs break down after seven years but Cortana has been online for eight. If this is all a bit confusing, it’s because many of these elements have only ever been alluded to or briefly mentioned in the games – Halo 4 makes use of the series’ extended canon from various books and miniseries.
He’s got a bone to pick with humanity, and his Promethean forces have attracted the attention of a rebel sect of Covenant and the UNSC Infinity. As chance would have it, they eventually encounter the shield world Requiem, which houses the Forerunner known as the Didact. Halo 4 picks up roughly five years after we last inhabited everyone’s favorite Spartan as Master Chief and the artificial intelligence Cortana have been adrift on the remains of the Forward Unto Dawn frigate since the events ending Halo 3. Again, you get the code, plus the Cortana Micro figure.
I HIGHLY recommend getting this, even if you have the series 1 Chief figure. Not only is Chief FANTASTIC, but the Cortana minifig is amazeballs! This pic shows more of the detail of Cortana. It seems purposeful that Cortana was made to pop out of the stand for Chief to hold. You can see more of the detail that went into this figure above.įinally, Master Chief holding Cortana in his hand. While slightly flexible, you don’t want to break it. What’s great about the Cortana micro figure is that it DOES come out of the ‘puck-like’ stand. This is just FANTASTIC! Not only is the sculpt great, the paint application on such a small figure is OUT OF THE PARK Awesome!!! Weathered AND has small UNSC and UNSC bird emblems on it! Now THAT is detail folks! The peg in the middle is removable and is there if you want to stow the weapon on Chief’s back.Ī little tough for me to get in focus, here is the Cortana micro figure. The railgun with the MC fig is well done. You definitely get your monies worth from this figure!
Not just for it’s clean paint application, but also considering the weapon skin code AND the Cortana microfig. In fact I think it’s even better than the one that came in series one of the Halo 4 figures. This one compared to the one from the cryo tube is MUCH cleaner. Given that bonus skins via the Champions Bundle cost money, these being bonuses for no additional cost on top of the figure is VERY welcome indeed! Here is the ‘Riptide’ skin for the Assault Rifle.
It’s a really nice bonus with the Master Chief figure.Īs with the other figures in this wave this one comes with a code. Good for the environment! The Cortana microfig is display nicely with it’s own graphic. For one it saves on cardboard which saves on trees being used, plus excess garbage. On with the review (click to make pics bigger): A logn wait between series 1 and 2 is worth it! Fast on the heels of the CIO spartan review comes this Master Chief toy review.
